PYGMALION: Michelle Zauner

Michelle Zauner is an artist known for her solo musical project Japanese Breakfast through which she released two studio albums, Pschopomp (2016) and Soft Sounds from Another Planet (2017). Previously, she fronted the indie pop band Post Post as a student at Bryn Mawr College in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, and later started the emo band Little Big League in Philadelphia. Her music has been described as indie rock, indie pop, experimental pop, and lo-fi. In 2019, Japanese Breakfast released two singles under the W Records music label, Essentially and a cover of the Tears for Fears song Head Over Heels.

As PYGMALION enters its 15th year, it remains one of the most culturally creative events in Champaign-Urbana and downstate Illinois. The ever-expanding offerings have grown to include music, technology, literature, food, and maker components. Krannert Center hosts festival events featuring comedian Michelle Wolf, food and wine connoisseur Antoni Porowski, a full TECH DEMO + Human Library, Astronomy on Tap, musical artist Michelle Zauner, and poets J.
