Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin, Foreign Affairs: Characters of the Baroque

The Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin began as a courageous display of musical sovereignty against the East German socialist regime, and now, over thirty years later, it enjoys recognition as one of Europe's greatest musical success stories. The orchestra can be counted on to bring together beloved works and wonderful discoveries in a way that entrances audiences and critics alike—and brings the musicians joy as well. Or, as The Boston Globe stated, "The ensemble is superb—it's as much fun to watch these performers listen to one another as it is to hear them play."

In this performance, Telemann's Overture-Suite in G Major, "Les Nations anciens et modernes," sets the tone for a journey across Europe and the Mediterranean. Coupled with works of Handel, Vivaldi, Bach, and Rebel, the program will explore riches of the familiar and the foreign through music.
