Krannert Center Uncorked: Tribute to CU African Musicians with Leon Lewis-Nicol & Reginald Lewis

Join us as we kick off the fall edition of our popular Krannert Center Uncorked concert series! We start our fall edition with A Tribute to C-U African Musicians, featuring Dr. Leon Lewis-Nicol and Dr. Reginald Lewis.

Both graduates of the University of Illinois School of Music's jazz program, Lewis-Nicol and Lewis bring their talents and their connections to the Champaign-Urbana community to Stage 5 for an evening of music inspired by the African continent and its far-reaching influence on jazz. Leading an all-star quintet, they'll explore compositions by legendary artists and composers including Fela Kuti, Hugh Masekela, Oscar Sulley, Randy Weston, and more, blending rich musical traditions with the spontaneity and spirit of jazz improvisation.

Come early, enjoy a beverage from our Stage 5 Bar, and let the music set the tone for your evening. This performance, from 5:30-7pm in the Krannert Center lobby, is the perfect prelude to East African vocalist and C-U native Somi's 7:30pm ticketed concert.
