Canceled: A Living Room Gathering: The 50th-Anniversary Closing Moment
On March 11, 2020, the University of Illinois communicated new guidelines for university operations, enacted to safeguard health during current COVID-19 conditions.
In accordance with these guidelines, all public events the remainder of the Spring 2020 semester are canceled as of Monday, March 16, 2020. If any performances become available by way of streaming or other technology, we will share that information as soon as possible. While this action is necessary and wise, we are of course deeply saddened not to be able to help create experiences of joy and community in person at this time.

Since 1969, hundreds of thousands of people have gathered at Krannert Center in the name of art to help reveal the best in all of us. Over the Center’s two-season 50th-anniversary celebration, we’ve reflected on and reveled in this extraordinary history and impact, and now it’s time to look with joy towards the future and our next big chapter of creativity and community!
Enter Krannert Center’s lobby-turned-living room for this casual, highly energized, two-hour sampling of performances and exhibits representing Dance @ Illinois, Illinois Theatre, Lyric Theatre @ Illinois, Krannert Center Youth Series, and other campus and community partnerships. A cash bar, food available for purchase, and a toast to the Center complete the experience. Parking is free in the garages underneath Krannert Center after 5pm; visit Directions + Parking for more information.
Because of the nature of this event, seating will be limited. Patrons with questions about accommodations are invited to learn more about accessibility at Krannert Center.
After the free 5pm to 7pm Living Room Gathering, extend the celebration with your choice of 7:30pm ticketed performances: Lyric Theatre’s A Little Night Music, the University of Illinois Symphony Orchestra, or the University of Illinois Concert Jazz Band. Because the Lobby will be wonderfully busy on May 1, purchasing tickets in advance is recommended—in person, by phone, or online—but you are also welcome to purchase that evening. Online, tickets can be purchased until 30 minutes before the performance and can be sent to your email or phone (or mailed to you with advance notice).
We look forward to seeing you in the living room!
