Still Dreaming with Joshua Redman, Ron Miles, Scott Colley, and Brian Blade
Scott Colley, bass
Brian Blade, drums
Joshua Redman burst onto the New York jazz scene in the 1990s as the Berkeley-born son of legendary sax man Dewey Redman, but he quickly earned his own status by winning the prestigious Thelonious Monk International Saxophone Competition. Decades of inspiring performances have followed, with Redman’s fearless improvisations, all-star alliances, and global influences constantly expanding the swing and bebop roots of his signature style. His latest project, the Grammy Award-nominated Still Dreaming, riffs on his roots, too—by paying homage to Old and New Dreams, a quartet active in the 1970s and 1980s that featured jazz greats including Redman’s father, who passed away in 2006. Drummer Brian Blade (also seen this season at Krannert Center with Chick Corea), bassist Scott Colley, and cornetist Ron Miles join Redman for a celebration of Old and New Dreams’ spontaneous and collaborative spirit in a performance that simmers with vibrant originality and timeless tribute.
This performance will last approximately 90 minutes with no intermission.
