St. Olaf Choir

Anton Armstrong, conductor

More than a century ago in Northfield, Minnesota, Norwegian immigrant F. Melius Christiansen founded what would become one of this nation’s outstanding a cappella choirs. University of Illinois alumnus Anton Armstrong—who was once a student member of the St. Olaf Choir—took up the ensemble’s baton in 1990 and continues to lead 75 young men and women in impassioned interpretations of traditional hymns, spiritual songs, and contemporary works from across the globe. On the choir’s 100th-anniversary tour, which includes performances at Carnegie Hall and Severance Hall, Krannert Center audiences will once again experience the St. Olaf Choir’s warm tone and amazing technique, highlighted by the remarkable acoustics of Foellinger Great Hall.

Recommended for ages 9 and up.

This performance will last approximately two hours and 10 minutes including a 20-minute intermission.
