Concert Artists Guild Winner: Daniel Hsu, piano

Characterized by the Philadelphia Inquirer as a "poet . . . [with] an expressive edge to his playing that charms, questions, and coaxes," 18-year-old Daniel Hsu is a fast-rising pianist who was named the First Prize winner at the 2015 Concert Artists Guild Victor Elmaleh Competition and a 2016 Gilmore Young Artist. A San Francisco native—and when he was age eight, the youngest-ever winner of the San Francisco Chopin Competition—Hsu began studying at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia at age 10 under eminent pianists Gary Graffman and Eleanor Sokoloff. He is now the Richard A. Doran Fellow at Curtis, pursuing a bachelor of music in piano performance.

Beethoven: Piano Sonata, Op. 110
Liszt: Reminiscences de Don Juan
Mussorgsky: Pictures at an Exhibition

Founded in 1951 with a mission to discover, nurture, and promote young musicians, Concert Artists Guild helps artists launch sustainable careers, providing support to a roster of talented artists during a critical and formative time: between completion of formal studies and the achievement of an established career.

This performance will run approximately one hour and 40 minutes, and includes a 20-minute intermission.
