Verona Quartet

Acclaimed for its bold interpretive strength and electrifying performances, the Verona Quartet is the 2020 recipient of Chamber Music America’s prestigious Cleveland Quartet Award, which honors and promotes a rising young string quartet whose artistry demonstrates that it is in the process of establishing a major career. Upon their retirement in 1995, members of the acclaimed Cleveland Quartet envisioned a lasting legacy for young chamber musicians and joined forces with Chamber Music America and eight chamber music presenters—including Krannert Center—to create this award.

The Verona Quartet serves on the faculty of the Oberlin College and Conservatory as the Quartet-in-Residence, in addition to holding residences at the Lunenburg Academy of Music Performance, Indiana University Summer String Academy, and North Carolina’s Chamber Orchestra of the Triangle. Formed at Indiana University under the tutelage of the Pacifica Quartet and Atar Arad, the ensemble’s “thoughtful, impressive” performances emanate from the spirit of storytelling; the Quartet believes that the essence of storytelling transcends genre, therefore the name “Verona” pays tribute to William Shakespeare, one of the greatest storytellers of all time (Cleveland Classical).

Schubert: Quartettsatz in C minor, D. 703
Lena-Frank: Leyendas: An Andean Walkabout.
Beethoven: String Quartet No. 14 in C-sharp Minor, Op. 131
