sweat variant presents adaku, part 2
Created by sweat variant, the acclaimed partnership between artist and MacArthur Fellow Okwui Okpokwasili and director and designer Peter Born, adaku, part 2 continues a speculative trilogy exploring one family’s entanglement with the transatlantic slave trade. Set in a near-future United States, part 2 investigates the embodied consequences of this violent rupture and the erasure of ancestral knowledge.
When transmissions lead to sudden remembering, what is unleashed in the imagination of a young woman who's been led to believe she has no history worth remembering? What are the multitude of futures she can now imagine? sweat variant’s multidisciplinary approach invites audiences into cycles of ritual and repair.
