Madeleine Peyroux
"Music, song, the voice: this is my spiritual life."—Madeleine Peyroux
Early in her career, alto Madeleine Peyroux’s husky, languorous tones earned her comparisons to none other than the great Billie Holiday. It’s true that the French-American vocalist and guitarist, raised in Georgia, California, Brooklyn, and Paris, mirrors Holiday’s intimate sound. But over time, Peyroux’s niche has become a distinctive blend of jazz standards, dreamy originals, and genre-crossing renditions inspired by artists as diverse as The Beatles, Bob Dylan, Sister Rosetta Tharpe, and Robert Johnson. In concert, her haunting interpretations leave listeners in awe.
This performance will be presented with no intermission.
