Classic jazz opens Krannert Uncorked's Spring 2023 season! Saxophonist Chip McNeill is a professor and Chair of Jazz Performance at the University of Illinois School of Music. Throughout his storied career, McNeill has toured, performed or recorded with jazz greats Maynard Ferguson, Frank Sinatra, Dizzy Gillespie, Wynton Marsalis, Nat Adderly, David Liebman, Ira Sullivan, and the Woody Herman Orchestra, among others. He currently serves as the Musical Director for Latin jazz master Arturo Sandoval, and won a Grammy for his performance on Sandoval's 1998 CD Hot House.
McNeill will be accompanied by some of the finest jazz players in town: Kurt Reeder (piano), Andrew Binder (bass) and Max Osawa (drums). This quartet rivals any band you would hear in New York City, right here in Champaign-Urbana.
