Cleveland Quartet Award Winner: Dover Quartet

Catapulted to prominence after sweeping the 2013 Banff International String Quartet Competition—as well as taking top prizes at the Fischoff Competition and the Wigmore Hall International String Quartet Competition—the Dover Quartet is fast becoming a major presence on the international scene. As The Strad magazine observes, "With their exceptional interpretative maturity, tonal refinement, and taut ensemble," the Dovers are "pulling away from their peers." Contributing to its status as "the young American string quartet of the moment" is the fact that all four quartet members are consummate solo artists: first violinist Joel Link took first prize at the Menuhin Competition, violinist Bryan Lee and violist Milena Pajaro-van de Stadt have appeared as soloists with the Philadelphia Orchestra and Tokyo Philharmonic, respectively, and cellist Camden Shaw released a solo album debut on the Unipheye Music label (New Yorker).

The Dover Quartet's performance is made possible with funding provided by the Cleveland Quartet Award Endowment Fund. Upon their retirement in 1995, members of the acclaimed Cleveland Quartet envisioned a lasting legacy for young chamber musicians and joined forces with Chamber Music America and eight chamber music presenters—including Krannert Center—to create this prestigious award.

Mozart: String Quartet No. 23 in F Major, K. 590
Shaw: Plan & Elevation (The Grounds of Dumbarton Oaks)
Smetana: String Quartet No. 1 in E Minor, "From My Life"

This performance will run approximately one hour and 45 minutes, and includes a 20-minute intermission.
