Jupiter String Quartet

The Jupiter String Quartet chose its name because the planet Jupiter was prominent in the night sky at the time of the quartet’s formation in 2001. A particularly intimate group consisting of violinists Mélanie Clapiès and Meg Freivogel, violist Liz Freivogel (Meg’s older sister), and cellist Daniel McDonough (Meg’s husband, Liz’s brother-in-law), the ensemble's star continues to shine brightly as an important voice in the world of chamber music, exuding an energy that is at once friendly, knowledgeable, and adventurous.

This program presents Mozart’s String Quartet No. 19 in C Major, “Dissonance” and Beethoven’s String Quartet No. 12 in E-flat Major, Op. 127, alongside Azerbaijani composer Franghiz Ali-Zadeh’s Oasis (String Quartet No. 4). The evocative 1998 composition captivates with its mixture of sounds and textures, moods and pictures.

Program:

Mozart: String Quartet No. 19 in C Major, K.465, “Dissonance”
Franghiz Ali-Zadeh: “Oasis” (String Quartet No. 4)
Beethoven: String Quartet No. 12 in E-flat Major, Op. 127
