Chicago Symphony Orchestra

Riccardo Muti, Zell Music Director
Xian Zhang, conductor
Simon Trpčeski, piano

Consistently hailed as one of the world’s leading orchestras, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra returns to its “southern home,” Krannert Center’s renowned Foellinger Great Hall. Prokofiev’s Sixth Symphony was a risky undertaking in post-World War II Russia: a personal meditation on suffering and loss that he described as agitated, lyrical, and austere. Pianist Simon Trpčeski animates the romantic flourishes of Grieg’s Piano Concerto while Nokuthula Ngwenyama’s Primal Message is a fantasia inspired by the 1974 Aricebo interstellar radio transmission.

Ngwenyama: Primal Message
Grieg: Piano Concerto in A Minor, Op. 16
Prokofiev: Symphony No. 6
