The American Century

Ian Hobson, music director and conductor
Rachel Patrick, violin

Works by great American composers are on offer in a program that begins with Bernstein's most popular overture, strolls the sleepy streets of Knoxville, and bursts with the vitality of Broadway in the 1930s. Violinist Rachel Patrick joins Sinfonia da Camera in presenting David Canfield's Rhapsody after Gershwin, and the concert concludes with a sparkling suite of favorites from George Gershwin's Porgy and Bess, arranged by Robert Russell Bennett for outsized orchestra.

Bernstein: Candide Overture
Canfield: Rhapsody after Gershwin
Barber: Knoxville: Summer of 1915
Gershwin/arr. Bennett: Porgy and Bess: A Symphonic Picture

This performance will run approximately one hour and 30 minutes, and includes a 20-minute intermission.
