School Performance: Step Afrika! presents The Fruits of Our Labor (KCYS)
Celebrate the body as an instrument with Step Afrika!, the GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ title holder for the Largest Stepping Dance and the world’s leading authority on the art form of stepping. The Company’s newest work, The Fruits of Our Labor, blends the power of body percussion and contemporary dance with the vibrant energy of isipantsula (a rhythmic dance originating in South African townships) and the South African gumboot dance. Long-time Step Afrika! collaborator Jakari Sherman and South African choreographer Vusi Mdoyi lead an ensemble of virtuosic dancers whose bodies become instruments—clapping, striking, and stepping in mesmerizing unison, merging rhythm and ritual, history and storytelling.
