PHILADANCO!

For five decades, The Philadelphia Dance Company (PHILADANCO!) has broken boundaries and inspired audiences with an uncommon amalgamation of African-American, contemporary, and traditional dance forms, working in a “range of idioms most companies don’t even try to possess” with a company of dancers that are “a miracle of skill and energy” (Dance Magazine).

PHILADANCO!’s Champaign-Urbana performance will feature a show of soaring skill and impeccable technique as it presents Conglomerate, Anthony Burrell’s homage to the history of Black dance in Philadelphia; Super 8! by Ray Mercer; an excerpt of a new work—Mande Variations—by BaKari Lindsay set to Malian kora music; and resident choreographer Tommie Waheed-Evans’ With(in)Verse—part of the Krannert Center co-commissioned Success Stories project—which explores spirituality, sorrow, and redemption.

Recommended for ages 8 and up.

This performance will last approximately one hour and 55 minutes including a 20-minute intermission.

If you can, show your love for the arts by purchasing an “Advocate” ticket; the additional ticket cost directly benefits Krannert Center.
