The Other Side
Based On The Book By Jacqueline Woodson
In this moving dance performance from acclaimed choreographer (and director) Hope Boykin, a young girl named Clover is told by her mom that it isn't safe to cross the fence that segregates their African-American side of town from the white side where her neighbor Anna lives. But when the two girls become friends, they find a clever way to get around the grown-up rules together.
More than 20 years after its publication, Jacqueline Woodson's powerful picture book The Other Side comes to life on stage in an enthralling program of dance about overcoming the barriers that keep us apart.
This special collaboration with Dance at Illinois brings Hope Boykin to the University of Illinois campus for an artist residency, to rehearse university student dancers for their performances of The Other Side at Krannert Center.
