Mark Morris Dance Group and Music Ensemble
Spring awakens early with the return of Mark Morris and his brilliant coterie here to their Midwest home. The deep compact between MMDG and Krannert Center flourishes each season through inventive and inclusive engagement work, including the Center's ongoing Dance for People with Parkinson's program, and through the presentation of Mark's brazenly beautiful, exceptionally musical, and evocatively creative works. This season's program includes the solo dance Serenade, a role famously originated by Morris himself and set to the guitar and percussion music of his longtime friend, the late Lou Harrison; the whimsically clever ensemble work Dancing Honeymoon (complete with a pop-style 1920s and '30s soundtrack); and two new pieces: a company work set to Haydn's Piano Trio No. 44 in E major, titled A Forest, and Pure Dance Items, a changing ensemble for 12 dancers that explores variety in rhythm and pattern.
This performance will last approximately one hour and 32 minutes, and includes a 20-minute intermission.
If you like dance, you'll love these additional opportunities to interact with the Mark Morris Dance Group on January 28!
