Lyric Theatre @ Illinois Studio Scenes
The Studio Scenes class is for sophomores and juniors and aims to teach stagecraft while introducing students to a range of composers which is different each semester. This program will present selections by Ludwig van Beethoven, Maury Yeston, and Arthur Kopit. Beethoven, a German composer and pianist, created compositions that provide a lovely opportunity for Lyric Theatre students to study the vocal lines of the classical and romantic eras of music. Maury Yeston, a living American composer and theorist, is well known for musicals. He has received several awards, including a Tony Award for Best Original Score. Yeston has a fondness and talent for seamlessly merging different compositional styles. American playwright Arthur Kopit has received many Tony nominations throughout his career. He is a two-time Pulitzer Prize finalist known for his exploration of diverse themes and support for emerging playwrights.
