Krannert Center Uncorked: Leon Lewis-Nicol Jazz Quartet
Jazz is the thing on July 10 when the Leon Lewis-Nicol Quartet takes Stage 5 for Krannert Center Uncorked!
A native of Sierra Leone, Dr. Leon Lewis-Nicol is a jazz pianist whose musical inspiration, compositions and improvisational voice is deeply rooted in his West African Heritage and Christian beliefs. He is an active performing/touring artist who leads his own group and is one of the preeminent musicians in the central Illinois jazz scene. In addition to his own ensemble, Lewis-Nicol has made numerous appearances with other groups, including the New York based band Michael Mwenso and the Shakes, with whom he made his debut performance a the Lincoln Center in New York City. His touch can range from delicate to incendiary, and his deep understanding of the keyboard comes out with every note.
The Leon Lewis-Nicol Quartet also features a bevy of local jazz greats, including Dr. Reginald Lewis on sax, Sam Olson on bass, and Dr. Maxwell Osawa on drums.
Enjoy a cash bar, light snacks, and exceptional jazz as the Leon Lewis-Nicol Quartet plays for free at Stage 5 in the Krannert Center lobby.
