KODO presents LUMINANCE
Kodo is an internationally renowned ensemble dedicated to exploring the limitless rhythmic possibilities of traditional Japanese taiko drumming. The name “Kodo” evokes both the “heartbeat,” the primal source of rhythm, and “children of the drum,” reflecting the group’s spirit of vitality and curiosity. Since debuting in 1981, Kodo has performed over 7,500 times across more than 50 countries, focusing on cultural connection and human unity. Based on Sado Island off the northwest coast of Japan, KODO blends three core elements in performance: reimagined folk traditions, works by leading composers, and original creations shaped by global influences.
Their newest production, Luminance, offers a striking view of Kodo’s ever-evolving artistry—fusing powerful taiko with refined theatricality, dynamic choreography, and moments of shimmering stillness. The result is an immersive concert experience that pulses with energy, precision, and a radiant sense of shared human rhythm.
