Esme Arias-Kim, violin
Jenna Shin, violin
Join Sinfonia for a night on the town! This evening’s concert will open with the joint winners of the 2018 Sinfonia Youth Concerto Competition, Esme Arias-Kim and Jenna Shin, performing movements I and II of the stunning Bruch Violin Concerto in G minor. Next comes Beethoven's Symphony No. 2, a work dedicated to Karl Alois, Prince Lichnowsky. From Beethoven’s “early period,” this work was written during his stay at Heiligenstadt.
Following intermission, enjoy Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s beloved Piano Concerto No. 1—one of the most recognized of all piano concertos. The solo will be performed by 19-year-old winner of the Arthur Rubinstein Competition, Arsenii Mun, who is from Tchaikovsky’s hometown of St. Petersburg, Russia. Closing out the concert are Three Dance Episodes from Leonard Bernstein’s popular musical, On the Town. Don’t miss hearing “The Great Lover,” “Lonely Town” (Pas de deux), and “Times Square: 1944” live.
