Improvisors Exchange Workshop: Kojiro Umezaki and HUB New Music
Kojiro Umezaki will offer an introduction to the shakuhachi, a Japanese end-blown, bamboo flute, and provide insight on how improvisation and interpretation is expressed in its traditional repertoire. HUB New Music founder Michael Avitabile and ensemble members Gleb Kanasevich (clarinet) and Magnolia “Meg” Rohrer (violin, viola), both experienced improvisers, will join Umezaki to further enrich the conversation on cross-cultural collaboration and the blending of different practices stemming respectively from noise / drone music to Detroit’s experimental music scene.
