Krannert Center Uncorked with CU Folk & Roots Festival: Dan Kusaya & The Chimurenga Inspiration
Dan Kusaya & The Chimurenga Inspiration bring the vibrant sounds of Zimbabwe to Krannert Center Uncorked in a joyful, high-energy celebration of music and culture to kick off the 2026 CU Folk & Roots Festival!
Led by Zimbabwean-born musician Dan Kusaya, this seven-piece Champaign-Urbana ensemble blends the hypnotic sounds of the mbira and marimba with the infectious rhythms of chimurenga, Afrobeat, reggae, jazz, and dance music. The result is a sound that honors Zimbabwean heritage while incorporating other musical traditions to create something wholly unique.
Rooted in themes of resilience, unity, and cultural pride, the band's performances invite audiences to dance, connect, and celebrate. Whether delivering meditative Shona mbira melodies, driving Afrobeat grooves, or soulful jazz-infused rhythms, Dan Kusaya & The Chimurenga Inspiration create an experience that is as uplifting as it is unforgettable. Come see why they have earned the title, "The most original vibe in the Midwest."
Enjoy a beverage from the Stage 5 Bar, connect with friends old and new, and be prepared to dance!
All Krannert Center Uncorked performances are free at Stage 5 in the Krannert Center lobby.
