Krannert Center Uncorked with Dan Kusaya and Friends

Born in Rusape, Zimbabwe, Dan Kusaya discovered early a passion for traditional music and instruments, began learning to play ngoma, hosho, marimba, and mbira. Kusaya’s talent for music shaped a life of global travel sharing the music, history and life behind the melodies. Now based in Bloomington, Indiana, Kusaya teaches marimbas, drums, and dance and performs as a one-man band.

As a looping artist, Kusaya incorporates the sounds of multiple instruments in performances featuring original songs and world music, along with storytelling and traditional Zimbabwean repertoire. Inspired by "Chimurenga," Kusaya provides a fresh Afro-centric interpretation of traditional sounds and songs, believed to possess magical properties and used in historical ceremonies.

Join Kusaya, and special guests JB Faires (electric bass), Clifford Jakopo (vocals, hosho, congas), Gordon Kay (drumset), and Sebastian Jamieson (guitar) on a musical journey celebrating Zimbabwean culture, World music special and the transformative power of music.
