URBANITE Dance Showcase
Welcome to the temple of the arts for the communion of dance, music, culture.
**Weather note**: Due to the threat of high winds on event day, the URBANITE Dance Showcase has moved from the outdoor Amphitheatre to the indoor Colwell Playhouse at Krannert Center. Same venue, different space . . . even more vibes!
URBANITE Dance Showcase will premiere at Krannert Center for the Performing Arts in the Colwell Playhouse featuring 15+ dance groups performing primarily hip hop choreography with additional styles featured from Latin to contemporary dance. Inspired by the theatre's design resemblance of ancient Greek Theatres, which were temples of the arts hosting some of the first festivals of music and dance, URBANITE brings together all aspects of the culture in one immersive event for all to enjoy. Die-hard dance fans and casual admirers alike can experience the Midwest's best dance crews, DJ sets, special guests, activations, drinks, and more.
URBANITE is an international dance showcase and workshop series that is focused on dancer enrichment versus competition. Founded in 1998 in Champaign-Urbana, the experience has grown to 40+ showcases and has landed in eight US cities and three international stops. URBANITE bridges the gap between the worlds of choreography and freestyle dance, street dance and academia, dancer and fan, while connecting people to the culturally rich dance scene through events with elevated production.
