Jupiter String Quartet

With “freewheeling excitement and precise ensemble playing,” the Jupiter String Quartet stands squarely at the forefront of the younger generation of classical chamber music ensembles (Washington Post). This “ensemble of eloquent intensity” performs across the United States, Canada, Europe, Asia, and South America, in the world’s finest halls—including Krannert Center’s Foellinger Great Hall, at the University of Illinois where the Jupiter is quartet in residence (New Yorker).

Along with works by Mendelssohn and Dvořák, the Jupiter will perform a newly composed string quartet, imprimatur, by Kati Agócs, co-commissioned by Harvard Musical Association, Aspen Music Festival, and Krannert Center. The Boston Globe has praised Agócs’ music for its elegance, citing “music of fluidity and austere beauty” with “a visceral intensity of expression” and encouraging audience members to “go, listen, and be changed.” A recent Guggenheim Fellow, Agócs is also a winner of the prestigious Arts and Letters Award from The American Academy of Arts and Letters and a 2017 Juno Award nomination for Classical Composition of the Year. In its award citations, the Academy of Arts and Letters said: “The music of Kati Agócs reveals a wonderfully accessible lyricism that unfolds with both drama and complexity . . . it is music that seems to come directly from nature. It reaches the hearer through melody and clear design, with its soulful directness and its naturalness of dissonance.”

Mendelssohn: String Quartet No. 2 in A Minor, Op. 13
Agócs: Imprimatur
Dvořák: String Quartet No. 13 in G Major, Op. 106
