Venice Baroque Orchestra: The Swedish Nightingale
In the early 1850s, much of the United States went wild with Jenny Lind mania, celebrating this Swedish singer on her American tour with not only enormous enthusiasm at concerts, but the naming of products such as Jenny Lind hats, gloves, furniture, and more. Now Venice Baroque Orchestra and Swedish mezzo-soprano Ann Hallenberg pay tribute to Lind’s musicianship as Hallenberg performs arias of Orlandini, Giacomelli, Hasse, Handel, and Vivaldi. Hallenberg rose to fame in 2003 when she replaced Cecilia Bartoli on one day’s notice at the Opernhaus Zürich; she is now established as one of the world’s leading mezzo-sopranos. The Venice Baroque Orchestra, a dynamic ensemble of musicians who love what they do and who let that enjoyment show, promise on their fourth Krannert Center visit to again enthrall audiences with their “sheer delight in virtuosity” (The New York Times).
This performance will last approximately one hour and 40 minutes with a 20-minute intermission.
The Venice Baroque Orchestra is supported by the Fondazione Cassamarca in Treviso, Italy.
