UI Percussion Ensemble
The versatile members of this group showcase percussion traditions from across the globe.
This performance will include Carlos Chavez’s Toccata, a classic from 1942, originally written for John Cage and the Cage Percussion Players; Enrique Guimerá's Haikoustics, settings of 15 Japanese and Spanish haiku for marimba quintet (1998); Siegfried Fink’s Toccatina (1988), a subsequent piece referencing the Chavez and using the same instrumentation; Ivan Trevino’s Into the Air (2010) for two marimbas, and the United States premiere of Chilean composer Christian Hirth’s Nuhuel Haupi (2007), named for the largest lake in the oldest national park in Patagonia, Argentina.
This performance will run approximately one hour and 20 minutes, with a 20-minute intermission.
