Thollem McDonas, solo piano
Thollem McDonas’ residency as a George A. Miller Visiting Artist begins with a solo piano performance combining composition and improvisation reflective of an exceptional continuum of pianists expressing individually unique voices that transport listeners across extraordinary histories and styles of music. As a classically trained musician working across musical boundaries, Thollem’s virtuoso piano improvisations draw upon his love of Claude Debussy’s compositions, strains of Aaron Copland, and beyond including influences from iconoclastic pianists like Terry Riley, Cecil Taylor, and Paul Bley.
This performance will last approximately one hour and 15 minutes with no intermission.
