Sinfonia Da Camera: Mozart in G Minor: Classical Splendor

Ian Hobson, music director and conductor

Sinfonia da Camera opens the season with a program celebrating the virtuosic brilliance and expressive depth of the Classical era. C.P.E. Bach’s Flute Concerto in D Minor, performed by Jonathan Keeble, exemplifies the empfindsamer Stil with its expressive contrasts and improvisatory character. Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 15, led from the keyboard by Ian Hobson, offers a masterful balance of virtuosity and structural refinement. The evening culminates in Mozart’s Symphony No. 40 in G Minor, a work of striking dramatic intensity and rhythmic urgency. Rare among Mozart’s symphonies for its minor key, it reveals a depth of emotional complexity that continues to resonate with modern audiences. Together, these works illuminate a period of extraordinary artistic innovation, where formal precision and expressive freedom coexist in perfect balance.
