PYGMALION: Etherphonic Theremin Orchestra
Join us for this free concert featuring one of the world's most unique musical instruments. The Etherphonic Theremin Orchestra, formed in 2016 by director Barry R. Morse, is a unique ensemble comprised entirely of eight space-controlled theremin instruments. Players control the instruments and follow the director's hand signals in order to perform specific musical gestures leading to group-improvised soundscapes sculpted in real time by the director and performers together.
The Etherphonic Theremin Orchestra will perform during PYGMALION: TECH DEMO.
As PYGMALION enters its 13th year, it remains one of the most culturally creative events in Champaign-Urbana and downstate Illinois. The ever-expanding offerings have grown to include music, technology, literature, food, and maker components. Krannert Center hosts the festival a full day including headlining musicians (Thundercat, Julien Baker, and more), a reading from acclaimed author George Saunders, a full tech DEMO, Share the Vision, Human Library, and more.
