Joe Rauen

After graduating from the Berklee College of Music, Joe Rauen set out to find a way to combine his love for music and for visual art into a single practice. Rauen began experimenting with making playable musical instruments from everyday items, finding that “The world is just full of musical potential, everywhere.” His beautiful and unique creations include a suitcase bass, a tennis racquet banjo, an electric shovel guitar, and instruments made from plumbing, old toys, and various items from the hardware store. Rauen’s eclectic performances earned him a year-long residency at the Ace Hotel Chicago, and his music has been featured in the Chicago Tribune, on the WGN Morning News, and on NPR. Rauen will offer Stage 5 performances on his “unlikely musical objects” Friday at 6pm and 10:30pm and Saturday at 2pm. He will also be available in the Lobby to discuss the instruments on Friday from 5pm to 9pm and on Saturday from 1pm to 4pm and 5pm to 8pm.

As part of the University of Illinois, Krannert Center follows U of I guidelines regarding face coverings and other COVID-19 safety protocols. These guidelines change as conditions change, so we will continue to adjust our practices and keep you informed throughout the season. At this time, face coverings are required in indoor university spaces such as Krannert Center. In addition, people who are NOT fully vaccinated are required to wear a face covering outdoors when they cannot practice social distancing.

We kindly ask that you please leave large bags/purses at home or in your car rather than bringing them into the theatres.
