Improvisers Exchange Workshop: Stephan Crump
Grammy-nominated composer and bassist Stephan Crump will discuss his philosophies and approaches to improvising, as well as composing for and leading improvising ensembles.
The topics will include not only Crump's epic suite, Slow Water, that will be performed at Krannert Center, but also his most recent project, Passerine, which is inspired by the various approaches to nest-building undertaken by birds.
With this, he will address the nature of one's presence in the act of improvisation, and the benefits of pursuing a topic of interest that will inform the compositional and band-leading process.
All members of the community are encouraged to join. Questions will be welcomed.
