Carnaval celebrates the end of the holiday season before the introspection of Lent begins, culminating in Mardi Gras, or "Fat Tuesday." This season, Lyric Theatre @ Illinois will mark the occasion with music and dance from Argentina, Italy and New York-with brilliant Tango, Mambo and Swing dancing.

Patrons are invited to bring Mardi Gras masks and dress up to dance and play casino games in the Lobby beginning at 6pm. Jim Pugh, trombone, Larry Gray, bas and accordion, and Ricardo Flores, percussion will be providing a brilliant jazz tribute to the festival, followed by the Central Illinois Youth Chorus and winners of the First Carnaval! Kids Singing Competition. There will be a family crafts section with face painting and an opportunity for children to make their own shakers and play with the band. At 7:30, all will head to the Great Hall for an unforgettable concert. Dancing will follow in the Lobby. Carnaval! is a dazzling, lively event that will be fun for the whole family!

Please note that the following items are not allowed in the concert hall: backpacks, large bags, strollers, instrument cases, food, beverages other than bottled water, tripods, signs, balloons, skateboards, bicycles, scooters, and any other items deemed to be dangerous or to pose an obstruction. Thank you for your cooperation with these guidelines.
