Jeannette Sorrell, conductor and harpsichord

Conductor Jeannette Sorrell states, “Apollo’s Fire is a collection of artists who believe passionately that our job is to communicate—to take the listeners with us on an emotional journey. If, at the end of two hours, the audience is moved to tears, or joy, or laughter, or prayer, then we have done a good night’s work.”

On this visit to Krannert Center, that good night’s work will feature the performance of Vivaldi’s beloved Four Seasons as the revolutionary act of musical storytelling it was meant to be, bringing the composer’s pictorial descriptions vividly to life. If you think you know the Four Seasons, be prepared for surprises, and if you’ve never experienced it before, now is the time. Rich with musical depictions of bird calls, storms, animals, and more, Vivaldi’s story is made clear as Apollo’s Fire precedes each concerto that makes up the work with a quick “tour” of the sound effects to come. Be present as the musicians of Apollo’s Fire—the Cleveland Baroque Orchestra—sparkle “with an exuberant musicality, like wind through a forest” (The Boston Globe).
