AJ Ghent [j-ent] fuses the sounds of his Singing Guitar with rock, blues, funk, and pop into what he likes to call Neo Blues. His musical art has been classified as witty, energetic, soulful, and funky, carrying messages of positivity, love, and overcoming hardships. Ghent aims to create an unforgettable experience for music lovers, invoking energy and passion with the hopes of transporting listeners to a musical paradise. A little hip shaking, finger snapping, and head nodding is all you need for this tuneful excursion.

Ghent hails from Fort Pierce, Florida, and growing up was all about the music, which has been running through his family for generations. His great uncle Willie Eason was the creator of the “Sacred Steel Tradition,” and his grandfather Henry Nelson the founder of the “Sacred Steel” rhythmic guitar style. Ghent calls James Brown, Prince, and his family heritage as influences. He can be heard picking, sliding, and strumming all over the strings, whether on one of his custom-built six- or eight-string lap steel hybrids or his acoustic resonator.

Tickets for this event will go on sale to the public at 10am on Tuesday, August 31. Tickets will be sold online only, not by phone or at the Ticket Office counter. As part of the University of Illinois, Krannert Center follows U of I guidelines regarding face coverings and other COVID-19 safety protocols. These guidelines change as conditions change, so we will continue to adjust our practices and keep you informed throughout the season. At this time, face coverings are required in indoor university spaces such as Krannert Center. In addition, people who are NOT fully vaccinated are required to wear a face covering outdoors when they cannot practice social distancing.

Because of staffing changes resulting from the pandemic, Intermezzo cafe is closed for the festival, but snacks and beverages are available at Stage 5 Bar. Please wear a mask unless you are actively eating or drinking. No eating or drinking is permitted in lines or inside Foellinger Great Hall, Tryon Festival Theatre, or Colwell Playhouse.
