Dance for People with Parkinson's

In 2009, with the guidance of long-time artistic collaborators from Mark Morris Dance Group and Dance at Illinois, as well as assistance from the Unity Parkinson’s Disease Support Group and Carle Clinic, Krannert Center founded its own Dance for People with Parkinson’s program. This free, monthly movement class calls upon the evidence of numerous scientific studies to create safe, dance-based fellowship for those living with Parkinson’s Disease and their supporters. The classes have been supported by grants and individual donors who have invested in the well-being of others. Inspired by this philanthropy and the compassionate leadership of Mark Morris and his instructors, the class participants themselves came together to sponsor the 2015 performance and residency of the Mark Morris Dance Group at Krannert Center. Their sponsorship helped to create engagement opportunities for cadets at Lincoln’s ChalleNGeAcademy, for young dancers and senior living community residents, for University of Illinois School of Music students, and for budding actors with special needs.
