UI Symphony Orchestra Concerto Winners' Concert

This year, the School of Music is identifying several of its events as Pillar Performances at Krannert Center for the Performing Arts. The idea of Pillar Performances is to bring together the School of Music students, faculty, staff, and the community. The University of Illinois Symphony Orchestra (UISO) Concerto Concert will perform the second performance in the series, conducted by Professor Donald Schleicher. This year’s concert features three works from the period immediately following World War II.

Alberto Ginastera: Harp Concerto, featuring Sydney Campen, harp
Samuel Barber: Knoxville: Summer of 1915, featuring Ruth Kenney, soprano
Henri Tomasi: Concerto for Alto Saxophone and Orchestra, featuring Kevin Jiaqi Zhao, saxophone

A reception will follow in the Krannert Center Lobby, supported by the College of Fine and Applied Arts. Please join us in celebrating one of the School’s great traditions: an exhibition of the talented students who won the annual concerto competition, along with the University’s flagship orchestra UISO.

This performance will run approximately one hour and 12 minutes, and includes a 10-minute intermission.
