February Dance: Designed Environments

February Dance 2017 explores the concept of Designed Environments—spaces where the environment affects the nature of the dance, and the dance responds to (and affects) the nature of the environment created for it. Dances by choreographers Charli Brissey, Rebecca Nettl-Fiol, John Toenjes with guest artist Chad Michael Hall, and Renée Wadleigh explore these environments through computer interaction and dynamic social movement, deeply involving the audience in the experience of live dance. As part of Sonic Illinois, a month-long celebration of today’s diverse and experimental contemporary music scene, there will be original music by Ken Beck, Jason Finkelman, and Toby Twining.

Sonic Illinois

Honoring the University of Illinois sesquicentennial anniversary in 2017, Krannert Center and the School of Music collaboratively explore the enormous diversity of today’s vital contemporary music scene—a revival of the spirit of the University of Illinois Festival of Contemporary Arts, which was a major cultural force in the mid-20th century. Sonic Illinois, a month-long celebration of new music, will celebrate innovative creators who challenge convention, forge new pathways, and expand the creative process. See featured performances.
