An Evening with Ricky Ian Gordon at Station Theatre
Nathan Gunn and Ricky Ian Gordon have created an imaginative and poignant evening made up of the composer’s songs, which reveal Gordon’s abiding love for American poets—Edna St. Vincent Millay, Paul Celan, Marie Howe, and Dorothy Parker, to name a few. Dorothy Parker’s poems “One Perfect Rose” and “The Red Dress” evoked the Algonquin Round Table for them: a group of New York City writers, critics, actors, and wits. Members of "The Vicious Circle," as they dubbed themselves, met for lunch each day at the Algonquin Hotel from 1919 until roughly 1929. At these luncheons they engaged in wisecracks, wordplay, and witticisms that, through the newspaper columns of Round Table members, were disseminated across the country.
The evening will bring to life these poets, who have gathered at a place much like the Algonquin—portrayed by eight talented young singing actors, with Katie Barr and Ricky Ian Gordon playing piano, hosted by Nathan Gunn.
Tickets available from the Station Theatre.
