The Band of the Scots Guards and the Pipes, Drums, and Highland Dancers of the Black Watch, Third Battalion, the Royal Regiments of Scotland
Tuesday, February 12, 2013, at 7:30pm |
Foellinger Great Hall
In nearly three centuries of service, the Black Watch—otherwise known as the Third Battalion of the Royal Regiments of Scotland—has traversed continents, battled at Fontenoy and Ticonderoga, answered the call of duty in both world wars, and garnered honors at the Battle of the Hook in Korea. But the members of this revered machine gun battalion regularly trade battle dress for red hackles, black feather bonnets, Royal Stewart tartans, thundering drums, and Great Highland bagpipes in their role as what Pipe Major Steven Small calls “custodians of tradition.”
The Black Watch will be joined in concert by the London-based Band of the Scots Guards, which is frequently called upon for royal duties such as the fantastic spectacle of Trooping the Color each year on Queen Elizabeth’s birthday. Clad in resplendent red coats, the musicians have awakened halls across the globe with their quick march, Heilan’ Laddie. Experience the splendor for yourself as the Foellinger Great Hall again resounds with the majesty of military music-making.
Recommended for ages 10 and up
The performance will last approximately 1 hour and 54 minutes.
