Moscow Festival Ballet: Swan Lake
SERGEI RADCHENKO, ARTISTIC DIRECTOR
Swan Lake: Tuesday-Wednesday, January 24-25, 2012, at 7pm; The Sleeping Beauty: Thursday, January 26, 2012, at 7pm |
Tryon Festival Theatre
Hope reigns in two poignant tales from Marius Petipa, Tchaikovsky, and the Moscow Festival Ballet. In Swan Lake, Odette yearns for freedom as she awaits Prince Siegfried’s declaration of love and her release from a swan’s body. Tricked by the sinister von Rothbart, Siegfried mistakenly courts the look-alike Odile, who drives him to a desperate act. Endearing and grand, The Sleeping Beauty is the pinnacle of Petipa’s choreography and Tchaikovsky’s lyrical ballet music—a life-size fairy tale onstage. Spellbound, Princess Aurora must entrust her future to a rescuing prince when she’s sent into a deep slumber by the vengeful Carabosse. Both productions spring from Moscow Festival Ballet founder Sergei Radchenko’s capacity to infuse the elegance of the Bolshoi and Kirov Ballet companies into a troupe of dancers from across Russia who capture the heart-catching splendor of classical dance.
