Allerton Music Barn Festival 2010: Ian Hobson: Iberia

Sunday, September 5, 2010, at 8:30pm | Allerton Music Barn, Monticello

Allerton Music Barn Festival | Join us for a tour of Spain when the renowned pianist Ian Hobson will, for the first time, perform Isaac Albéniz's tour de force, Iberia. Composed between 1905 and 1908 in Nice and Paris, Iberia consists of 12 “impressions” that are evenly divided into four books. The composition depicts Albéniz's beloved Spain through its deliberate sonorities, thoughtful dynamic extremes, and cleverly juxtaposed registers. A piece with all the hallmarks of impressionism, Iberia has coloristic effects that include contrasts between light and shade, major and minor tonality, and flashes of brilliance—characteristics that lure listeners into the larger-than-life vitality and exoticism of Spain.

Take Allerton Road south of Allerton Park to get to the festival. Get directions to the Allerton Music Barn.

Please note: The Allerton Music Barn is not accessible from the mansion/formal garden area. GPS and web directions based on the Old Timber Road address are typically not helpful.

Light gourmet fare and beverage service will be available for purchase one hour before each performance and during each intermission.
