Classical Mix Series | In the words of Gianna Rolandi, her teacher and director of vocal studies at the Lyric Opera Center for American Artists, Nicole Cabell came in “singing like she owned the place”—and in the end, she did own the 2005 BBC Singer of the World Competition by beating out 500 other contestants. Poised infinitely beyond her years, she made her Metropolitan Opera debut in The Magic Flute as Pamina in December 2008 and appeared as Adina in L’Elisir d’Amore.
Her debut CD, entitled simply Soprano, secured an Echo Klassik Award and was heralded by Gramophone magazine as an “Editor’s Choice.” The New York Times has likened her voice to “a silken lasso.” Nicole Cabell has arrived, and with a voice “to be cherished,” she is certain to please in her Krannert Center debut (Globe and Mail).
