Great Hall Series | For a night with Tchaikovsky, who could be better at bringing down the house than these brilliant devotees of the turbulent, sonorous, aching, and triumphant music of the Russian master? Founded to spread the glories of classical music within the Soviet Union through radio broadcasts, the orchestra has expanded its reach to record television, radio, and film soundtracks; perform live at the Kremlin with the Moscow Classical Ballet on Russian dance monuments like Stravinsky’s The Firebird; and tour the globe. Steeped in the sages of Russian music, the group is a perfect match for conductor Alexei Kornienko’s intense commitment to preserving and sharing the traditions of these beloved works.

The fiery evening begins with the jubilant Polonaise from Eugene Onegin. Rachmaninoff International Piano Competition medalist Alexander Sinchuk will then ignite the stage when he joins the orchestra for the exuberant Piano Concerto No. 1 in B-flat Minor, Op. 23. Finally, the composer’s powerfully soulful masterwork—Symphony No. 6 in B Minor, Op. 74, “Pathetique”—will bring this gala tribute to one of the greatest artists of all time to its close.
