ELLNORA | The Guitar Festival | Before Laurie Morvan lit up the stages at blues festivals across the country and before she opened for the Fabulous Thunderbirds and before her numerous national tour dates and before her widespread recognition for “wiry, fiery solos” and a “sweet, soaring voice” (Blues Revue)—before all of that, this bluesy singer/songwriter was a standout right here at the University of Illinois as an MVP volleyball player, an electrical engineer, and a pilot.

These days Morvan has another entreé to the limelight—strapping on her 1956 Fender Stratocaster to coax the blues from its flaming frets. “Fearless and fresh,” Morvan has already caught the eye of Blues Festival Guide as the 2008 Blues Artist on the Rise, and she’s been linked in spirit to both Bonnie Raitt and Stevie Ray Vaughan (Vintage Guitar). With her outstanding band, this steaming guitar picker will bring the house down to close the ELLNORA experience—like drinking from a fire hose!
