School of Music Opera Series | We’ll ship off to mysterious Bali H’ai in this exploration of prejudice, wartime patriotism, cultural mores, and love. The sumptuous tunes “Some Enchanted Evening,” “Younger than Springtime,” and “I’m Gonna Wash That Man Right Outta My Hair” or the seductive chemistry between Emile De Becque and Nellie Forbush might be what’s typically remembered about this sparkler of the Rodgers and Hammerstein canon, but the hope and resilience of genuine people are what shine through on the 60th birthday of this ever-topical masterpiece.
